Dynamik Agri is out, and you can download it today. It is a Windows program for the farm's paperwork, and its first part is the one we get asked about most: the NVZ register, the whole record the nitrate guidance asks a farm in a Nitrate Vulnerable Zone to keep for five years. The program itself is free. The NVZ register is free for its first year, then £49.99 a year plus VAT.
It is made by Dynamik App Ltd and distributed through UKPAI, and you download it with the same free account you use for the tools on this site.
Why a program, and not another page on this site
Our NVZ calculator works out a farm's nitrogen loading and the closed periods, and it stays free. But a calculation is not a record. What an inspector asks to see is a year of dated entries, kept as they happened, and a web page is the wrong place to keep that. Browser storage empties when someone clears their history, and nobody should find out their five-year record has gone on the morning of an inspection.
So the register is a file on your own computer. It works without an internet connection, everything is worked out on your machine, and it can be copied onto a stick like any other file.
What the NVZ register holds
- Field records: sowing, every spreading of manure or fertiliser, and the harvest
- The fertilisation plan in its four steps, written before the spreading it covers
- Manure movements, in and out, with the other party's name and address
- Storage: your capacity, and every storage check kept as it was worked out
- Temporary field heaps, where they were and when
- The annual summary due by 30 April, with the livestock nitrogen worked out from Defra's own standard values
- Spreader calibration, the weather checked before spreading, and your lab reports and papers kept inside the file
As you enter a spreading, the program reads it against the guidance: the closed periods, the crop's N max, the 250 kg N/ha field limit, whether a plan was written first, and whether the soil analysis is under five years old. It points things out. It never refuses an entry, because it is your record, not ours.
Nothing is ever deleted or written over. A correction is a new entry that keeps the dates of the one it replaces, and both stay listed, which is how a record meant to be inspected should behave.
What it does not do yet
We would rather you knew this before downloading than after.
- The grassland derogation is not in it. That is a return to the Environment Agency, and it will be its own part.
- The risk map is kept as a paper inside the register, not drawn in the program.
- The crop's nitrogen requirement in the plan is typed in by you, not looked up.
- Rainfall and slurry volumes for the storage check are typed in too.
Two more parts are announced and not built yet: spray records and an animal medicine book, each £24.99 a year plus VAT after its own free year.
What it costs, plainly
- The program: free, with free updates, for as long as you use it.
- The NVZ register: free for the first year from the day you add it, then £49.99 a year plus VAT.
- The backup: optional and bought separately, by the year. Its price is coming soon.
If you stop paying, nothing is taken away. The register stays on your computer, where it always was: everything already in it can still be opened, read and printed. What stops is adding new entries to that part until it is renewed.
Getting it
- Create a free UKPAI account, or sign in to the one you have.
- Download the installer from the download page. It installs for you alone and never asks for an administrator password.
- The first time it opens, type your account's email, then the six-digit code we send to it. That is the whole sign-in: no password.
One honest note on step 2. Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen the first time, because the installer does not yet carry a code-signing certificate and Windows has not seen many copies of it. Clicking More info and then Run anyway carries on.
