Introduction to Precision Agriculture

A five-stage walkthrough for small and medium farms: what precision agriculture actually is, what data your farm already produces, what the technology does in the field, what it costs and pays back — and how to start without buying anything. Told through one composite 85-hectare farm, with every fact linked to its source.

What this course is

A plain-English introduction to precision agriculture for farmers who have heard the term and filed it under "not for a farm like mine". Each stage follows Martin — a composite 85-hectare mixed farmer — through one season of finding out what the technology actually does, and pauses to state the verifiable facts, with links to AHDB and gov.uk sources.

What this course is not

This is not agronomic or financial advice, and it is not a sales pitch. Trial results vary widely between fields and seasons — the course quotes the ranges, not the brochure numbers. Use it to decide what is worth investigating on your own farm, with your own agronomist.

How it works

  • Five stages, each about 5 minutes
  • Illustrated, story-driven slides — read at your own pace
  • Short comprehension checks to help you remember
  • Every fact linked to its official source
  • Free, no sign-up required

Educational walkthrough based on a composite farm. This is not agronomic or financial advice. Every farm and every field is different — trial results quoted here (AHDB and others) varied widely between fields and seasons. Speak to a qualified agronomist (FACTS-registered for nutrient decisions) before changing rates, and verify any grant scheme's current terms on gov.uk before relying on it.
